The Groceries Code Adjudicator Review: Part 2 - Call for Evidence on the case for extending the GCA’s remit

Overview

The Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) s the UK's independent adjudicator responsible for overseeing the relationship between supermarkets and their suppliers. The GCA also ensures that large supermarkets treat their direct suppliers lawfully and fairly and investigates complaints.

This review is divided into two parts. This is the second part, a Call for Evidence on the case for extending the GCA’s remit in recognition of concerns raised by other suppliers in the groceries sector – particularly primary producers and farmers – who are not covered by the Code. The first part, GCA Review Part 1 is the statutory requirement which the Government is obliged to fulfil under the Groceries Code Adjudicator Act 2013. The aim is to gain evidence on how it has performed its statutory obligations following its creation 3 years ago.

Why your views matter

The Statutory Review and Call for Evidence will provide evidence that will be crucial in helping Government to make an assessment on the GCA’s performance against the measures set out in the Act and the case for extending the GCA’s remit in recognition of concerns raised by other suppliers in groceries sector – particularly primary producers and farmers – who are not covered by the Code.

Your responses to the Questions will therefore inform our findings and any recommendations you make will need to be supported by a robust evidence base.

This call for evidence is open from 18 October 2016 and closes on 10 January 2017
