Capacity Market changes for Prequalification 2027
Overview
The Capacity Market is Great Britain's primary mechanism for ensuring sufficient electricity capacity is available to maintain a secure and reliable electricity supply. The government regularly reviews the operation of the scheme to ensure it remains effective, reflects changing market conditions, and continues to support security of supply.
This consultation seeks views on a range of proposals intended to improve the operation of the Capacity Market and ensure it remains fit for purpose as the electricity system evolves.
We welcome responses from all interested parties, including Capacity Market participants, electricity market stakeholders, trade associations, consumer groups, academics, think tanks and other organisations with an interest in electricity security and decarbonisation.
